According to an ancient legend, the name of this remote village in the heart of the marais originates from the story of Dame Létiticie, a noble woman from Saint-Sauveur, who, having gotten lost in the forest during a hunting party believed she would die of thirst. After invoking the protection of the Virgin, she saw a spring gush forth and then vowed to build a sanctuary on the place, which has since been called Selsoif. 
The church dates as far back as the 11th century. The interior is decorated with sculptures of the Virgin and Child and Sainte-Catherine both dating from the 14th century and wood statues of Saint-Sebastian and Saint-Claude from the 16th century.
